Who said parenting was going to be a breezy walk in the park, because it’s not. It is one tough job; however, there’s no greater fulfillment than being parents.
If you want to become a better parent, then you will need to do your part of putting effort in fortifying your relationship with your kids. The key is to start today, not tomorrow or later down the road when they’re all grown up and you miss your opportunity.
Here are three good parenting tips for better relationship with your kids:
-
Discipline Yourself to Set an Example
This may seem broad, but it’s actually very specific. Children emulate their parents in a lot of ways than you could imagine.
What do you want them to emulate about you? Do you want them to wake up early, study hard, diminish television, and focus on specific tasks? Then do it also yourself. An issue that parents may run into is that children may call them out on hypocrisy with “Why don’t you do it?” and “Because I’m an adult” or “I’m your parent” are not what you should be responding with.
Instead, focus on disciplining yourself with a schedule, and stick to it. Wake up early, exercise regularly, complain less, and showcase examples of the benefits derived from what you do.
-
Spend Time in Their Space
One way to improve your parenting skills is to spend time with them in their own space.
What do they like to do? Join them, show them new things, and literally spend time with them doing their favorite activity. When they show interest in other things, take it seriously, and join in. Do they want to learn karate? Take a class with them. Do they want to read more books? Go to the library.
Whatever it is your kids show interest in, get involved, and push them alongside with you. You will not only bond, you will learn something new about yourself as well.

Join Parenting Groups and Talk with Other Parents
If you want to grow as a parent, then join parenting groups and simply reach out to other parents. Sometimes, just venturing out and talking to other experienced parents can help you understand similar issues you’re all facing. You are not alone.
Places like the Parent Teacher Association and other groups can help you improve, and learn how to navigate the world of parenting at any level.
